It’s that time of year again - summer reading time!
As upcoming seniors, you will be reading Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro. You must finish reading the novel and prepare for a test to be given in your English class on Thursday, September 24, 2026. You are not required to keep a reading journal, but you may find it to be a useful reference tool when completing your Summer Reading Test. A recommended journal format is available here on the UCT English Department’s website, under the additional resources tab. Additionally, you can find guided reading questions for the novel under the additional resources tab. Copies of the novel are available at local libraries, local bookstores, and online retailers such as Amazon and Barnes & Noble. The UCT Library will also provide several e-book copies for senior students, where possible, through OverDrive. In addition, the UCT English Department will have a limited number of physical copies available for loan, as well as audiobook versions when available. If you need help accessing the novel, please contact Ms. DeChristopher using the information provided below. PLEASE NOTE: Senior Honors and AP Literature and Composition students have a separate summer reading assignment that will be distributed directly to students enrolled in those classes. If you are going into senior honors or AP and did not receive this assignment, please get in touch with Ms. DeChristopher at [email protected]. A copy of the Senior Honors assignment and the AP Literature and Composition assignment can also be found under the honors assignments tab at the top of this page. |
TEST:
On September 24, 2026, students will complete a multiple-choice test on their summer reading assignment. This test will be worth 15% of students’ Term 1 grades, so it is especially important that reading is completed on time.
QUESTIONS:
If you have any questions about the summer reading assignment, please contact Ms. Michelle DeChristopher, English Department Teacher-Leader, at [email protected]. She is available throughout the summer to assist you.
